BMW 5 Series
Are you looking for a BMW 5 Series?
Q: How do you change the spark plugs on a BMW 5 series?
i want to do it myself and its a y reg sport 01
A: It is very easy. There is a cover that is held on buy two screws on the top of the engine. Take this cover off and below it are the plugs. You will have to remove the coils before you can take the plugs out. The coils are held on by 3 or 4 screws. Once these are out pull up on the coil and it will disconnect from the plug. Then remove the plug and replace everything in reverse order. Make sure you torque the plug correctly. Should take you less than an hour.
You can go to roadfly.com or bimmerforums.com and go to the E39 forums to find better instructions on how to do this.

Q: What’s the main differences between BMW 3 & 5 Series for 2001 & 2002?
Want to buy a used BMW and leaning toward 5 series as I have children. Also, would you recommend 525 or 530
A: the main differance is that the bmw 5 series is alot bigger than the 3 series so the kids have got more space in the back,,
i would go for the 525 myself, there isnt alot of differance in performance ways between the two,,
i just hope that the 5 series dosnt have the awful idrive control,, its more like idistract, then icrash
Q: How do you re-set the service indicator on a 2006 BMW 5 series?

Hold down odometer button for 7 seconds, screen will come up on display, go to BC button on left side of steering wheeel, Hit BC button until you get to engine oil symbol, Hold BC button down until reset appears on display let go of BC button hit BC button again, a clock will come up on display when resetting oil life, after clock disapears turn off key and turn back on.
Q: my bmw 5 series is overheating and the radiator is full of water?
went on a trip for about 30min and that was fine then all of a sudden the light came on and it was over heating i did check the water the next day and it was full
A: Year and model are always helpful if you want better answers. I’ll assume you have an E39 5-series (1997-2003) with a 6-cylinder engine.
It’s most likely that you have a water pump failure, based on the symptoms you describe. This is not uncommon, and should be dealt with urgently, since the coolant is not circulating with the engine running. Even driving short distances will cause the car to overheat.
Preventative cooling system maintenance in the form of water pump, radiator and thermostat replacement around 80k miles is recommended. I would strongly encourage you to do all these, plus replace the coolant expansion tank, major hoses and serpentine belt. Also, replace the thermostat housing (plastic) with an aftermarket aluminium piece.
None of this is very difficult if you’re a competent mechanic, but if you’re not, I suggest using bimrs.org to find an independent BMW specialist near you.
If you’re lucky, you will not have overheated the car so that the head gasket or cylinder head need replacement. But it’s important you do not drive the car again until the problem is solved.
Q: How do i get spark plugs out of the ignition wires in my 1991 BMW 5 series?
A: I’m assuming you are having problem disconnecting the spark plug wires (boots) from the spark plugs. This can usually be solved with a twisting action and some well places silicone lubricant. Don’t get the lubricant on the outside of the boot as it will only serve to make it difficult to grab and twist. Don’t be afraid to apply ample force if it is resisting. It will come off. Just be sure not to pry it or push it side to side to avoid breaking off the spark plug.
Q: How do you buy advanced transmission fluid for cars in india. A BMW 5 series steering is groaning a lot?
A: find it at www.yahoo.com or www.google.com
Q: Is it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?
Also, if it’s running hot, isn’t this the first thing to try? What else might be the problem? Thanks.
A: It is entirely dependant on the year and engine as to the difficulty of the T-stat change out.
Well the first thing I would do is check your coolant level. Sorry,I am not meaning to be a wise guy by saying that but I have learned on this board to not forsake of take steps for granted.
After that make sure it holds coolant.
Check for obstructions froward of radiator.
Confirm electric fan operates and goes up to speed
If not electric the fan clutch should stop the blade from being turned by hand immediately when vehicle off
Start and warm up.
Note flow going into pressurized recovery chamber.
while running, with glove, squeeze upper radiator hose slightly. You should be able to recognise flow activity inside it.
confirm that air is bled out of system.
BMW’s typically use a finer resolution core to allow more radiator cooling capacity. The flip side to this is that they may clogg easier, especially along the bottom of the radiator. If there is a large amount of coolant going into the pressure recovery chamber via a 5/8 bypass hose there is a chance their could be a restriction in the radiator cores.
There is really no sense in flushing the unit on the vehicle. better to give it a good backflushing and look in the bottom with an inspection mirror. If there is still lots of sediment then take it to a radiator shop.
Check to see in coolant has been escaping via the weep hole of the water pump. If so then chances are the the pump is bad. Confirm that the drive belt is within spec of the driven water pump pully, and nothing slick has wound up on it.
Look at the hoses, as they will usually show evident marks where it is leaking.
Only at this point would I consider the T-stat. That is, if all other above has passed.
Not a part that sticks as often as one might think, unless additives were put in the system such as allumafil or stop leaks.
One thing about BMW’s is that they are not very shy about coolant problems. They are usually “in your face” problems that can be seen
The newer BMW’s are equipped with abs couplings that break quite readily. The parts department at BMW has an abundant supply of these and will love to sell you a couple.

haha get it? As if you didn’t already know.
That’s about the best general guidance I can give on a 5 series without a year or engine.
Q: Where can i find a reputable shop in Lawrenceville Georgia to install a remote start system on a 5 series Bmw?

Q: A problem with my BMW 5 series ?
I have a BMW 5 series and my windscreen-wiper has damaged my windscreen.I need a cheap solution. I have already went to the local service, but they said the only solution is to replace the hole windscreen, which is very expensive. It’s just a minor scrath, but it shows.Any suggestions?
A: Replace your windscreen wipers also when the repairs are being made such that you will not have the same issues – or worst issues – in the future. Metal on glass contact will result in eventual replacement of your entire windscreen if the depth of the scratch is too great to be repaired.
Q: An Infiniti G35 coupe (2005) or a 2005 BMW 5 series. Which would you rather go for?
An Infiniti G35 coupe (2005) or a 2005 BMW 5 series. Which would you rather go for?
I’ve got a wife and a 1 year old son at the moment so don’t mind a coupe. Just a bit unsure as to which is a better car to own……………..in terms of looks, maintainance, durability, insurance, etc.
I understand both cars are quite different but these just happen to be the cars I love………and can afford.
Thanks.
A: If those are the only choices then I’ve got to go with the 530/535 model since it is a 4-door car and you’d be an idiot to buy a 2 door coupe where you have to struggle to get your kid into his car seat everyday. Why not just get the G35 sedan, they are much cheaper used then the coupe? I would choose that over the 5 series car for your situation and you can get a 2006 model for the same price as the 2005 coupe. BMW’s are more expensive to maintain and get fewer mpgs then Infiniti. You might want to check out the Nissan Maxima too since you are looking for a luxury sport sedan and the 2009 Hyundai Sonata was just released also worth a look.
Q: Has anyone else had problems with BMW Series 5 parking sensors?
BMW5 been back to garage 4 times as Parking sensors fail. This is on a 2005 model, bought & owned from new.
Az & Andy Pandy – you are morons!
Its my partners car. I do not NEED sensors and do not have them on my own car. However when you buy something that is supposed to work – it should do exactly that!
